Yeonggwangimjinsuseongnok
영광임진수성록 · 靈光壬辰守城錄

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a documentary record, comprising a single volume of 21 leaves, that gives a detailed account of how the walled town (eupseong) of Yeonggwang County in Jeolla-do was defended amid the Imjin War, and of the resolve of local scholars (sarim) in the countryside to overcome the crisis. It contains the "Imjinwaeran Suseong Myeongcheopseo" (preface to the roster for defending the town during the Imjin War), the "Imjin Suseongnok" (record of the defence of the town during the Imjin War), the "Suseong Myeongcheop" (roster for defending the town), the "Suseongbeop" (rules for defending the town), and other writings. The contents record that in the tenth month of 1592, when the Imjin War broke out, the magistrate of Yeonggwang County, Namgung Gyeon, was in mourning and wearing mourning dress, and that in the absence of a magistrate the local scholars took it upon themselves to defend the town walls and carry out administrative duties. A note at the end of the book shows that it was printed and published at Bongjeongsa Temple in 1753, the 29th year of King Yeongjo. It is valued for vividly conveying an example of local defence during the Imjin War, and is regarded as an extremely valuable source for the study of the righteous armies (uibyeong) of that period.
