Cheonjangsa Temple Seven-story Stone Pagoda
천장사칠층석탑 · 天藏寺七層石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis pagoda stands in the front yard of Inbeopdang Hall (a hall that serves as both the monks' living quarters and the main Buddha hall) at Cheonjangsa Temple. It consists of a seven-storey body set on a single-tier foundation. The foundation's base stone is cut from the same stone as the ground stone, and above it is laid a roof-shaped capstone whose width is almost the same as that of the first storey of the body. Each body stone of the pagoda has pillar shapes carved into its corners, and the rate at which the stones narrow towards the top is not very great. The underside of each roof stone is carved with three-tiered eaves supports. The stones placed from the fourth-storey roof stone up to the seventh-storey body stone look awkward, as though not in their original positions, and the finial at the top does not match the size of the seventh-storey roof stone beneath it, suggesting that it is not in its original form. Although the body and roof stones show the style of Goryeo, the fact that the width of the foundation is almost the same as that of the first-storey body stone suggests that the pagoda was built after the Goryeo period.
