Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are woodblocks carved with the collected literary works of Jukcheon Park Gwang-jeon (1526–1597), who led a righteous army, a civilian militia, during the Japanese invasions of Korea, together with woodblocks bearing his cursive-script calligraphy. Park Gwang-jeon studied under Toegye Yi Hwang, and on the recommendation of Yu Hui-chun, then a provincial governor, was appointed a junior official at Gyeonggijeon Shrine. When the Japanese invasions broke out he raised a righteous army in Boseong together with Im Gye-yeong, Kim Ik-bok and others, and when the Jeongyu War broke out in 1597 and the enemy invaded the Honam region, he sent proclamations to Song Hong-ryeol, Bak Sa-gil and others and raised a righteous army once more. He won a great victory over the enemy at Dongbok, but his illness worsened and he died. After his death he was enshrined at Yongsanseowon in Boseong and given the posthumous title 'Mun-gang'. The woodblocks comprise 134 blocks of his collected works and 12 blocks of calligraphy, carved in 1929. Although the carving dates from a later period, it is valued as material for studying the printing techniques and the concept of the 'title page' during the transitional period between the early modern and the contemporary eras of book production.
