Standing Stone Buddha of Bongjeongsa Temple, Jangseong
KOGL Type 1Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.kr

This stone Buddha, located at Bongjeongsa Temple in Singi-ri, Samgye-myeon, Jangseong County, South Jeolla Province, was made from two separate stones: one for the pedestal and one for the body of the Buddha. Although part of the statue is badly damaged, it is the only surviving material evidence for the history of the present-day Bongjeongsa Temple. It is thought to date from the mid-Goryeo period, and together with the nearby Three-storey Stone Pagoda in Sincheon-ri, Yeonggwang (Treasure No. 504), it serves as valuable reference material for the study of sculpture of the period.
