Pungyang Jo Clan Genealogy Panmok and Bogak Pavilion
풍양조씨 족보 판목 및 보각 · 豊壤趙氏 族譜 板木 및 譜閣

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are the panmok, the woodblocks engraved with the genealogy of the Hogong branch of the Pungyang Jo clan. Of a total of 934 blocks, 674 — the rest having been cracked or damaged — are kept in the Bogak, the storage pavilion built for them. The genealogy was first published in 1731, the seventh year of King Yeongjo, printed a second time in 1760, the 36th year of King Yeongjo, and reprinted a third time in 1826, the 26th year of King Sunjo. The fine carving and the format of the genealogy are considered valuable evidence of the techniques used at the time to publish clan genealogies, and of the practice of woodblock printing in the Joseon dynasty. The Bogak originally stood at Namjangsa Temple and, in 1924, was moved to its present site within the temple grounds, where a plaque reading 'Jossi Bogak' ('Jo Clan Storage Pavilion') was hung above it.
