Yugyeongjae Hall in Hakdong, Goseong, is a seodang, a village school, built by the Jeonju Choe clan to provide education for their descendants. In 1723 (the third year of King Gyeongjong), a thatched-roof building was erected in Hakdong village, a settlement of the Jeonju Choe clan, for the education of their descendants, but as student numbers grew it was relocated to its present site in 1845 (the 11th year of King Hyeonjong). Yugyeongjae faces south, set on a valley-floor plain. Centred on the main building, Yugyeongjae, there is a gate building opposite it, with a sarangchae, a men's quarters, and a storehouse wing placed to left and right, forming an open 'ㅁ'-shaped layout. Yugyeongjae measures six bays across the front and one and a half bays in depth. In the centre are two bays of wooden-floored hall, flanked on either side by two bays of ondol, heated-floor rooms, each with an attached narrow veranda. The roof is a hipped roof sloping down on all four sides, giving a trapezoidal front and a triangular side profile. The sarangchae measures five bays across the front and one and a half bays in depth, and consists of two bays of kitchen, two bays of ondol room with an attached veranda, and one bay of wooden floor; its roof is likewise hipped, and in front of the gate stands a rock bearing a marker stone inscribed Cheondoyeon. The storehouse wing is three bays in size, with a hipped roof. The gate building is a raised sotdaemun, its roof set higher than the flanking wings so that a palanquin could pass through, and it too is three bays in size.
