The bell of Ilraksa Temple was originally a small bell kept inside the Daeungjeon Hall (now the Myeongbujeon Hall). It is said to have been made by the monk Uihyeon when the temple was founded in 663, the third year of King Munmu of Silla, and to have undergone a major repair in the 18th year of King Seongjong of Joseon. However, the Seosan-gunji, the Gazetteer of Seosan County published in 1927, records that it was cast in 1759, the 35th year of King Yeongjo of Joseon. The bell of Ilraksa Temple went missing in the late 1970s, however, and its whereabouts remain unknown today.
