Samjungdaegwangsadogwang-ri Group Mok Statue
삼중대광사도광리군 목상 · 三重大匡司徒廣理君 木像

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a wooden statue of Son Geung-hun, the iphyangjo, the ancestor who first settled the Miryang Son clan in this area, and its jungsijo, the forebear credited with raising the clan's standing, who distinguished himself by helping King Taejo of Goryeo, Wang Geon, subdue Later Baekje. Son Geung-hun was a meritorious subject in the founding of Goryeo; for his achievement in helping King Taejo capture Singeom, son of Gyeon Hwon of Later Baekje, at the Battle of Hwangsan, he was named a Jwamyeong Gongsin, a title for meritorious subjects, and enfeoffed as Lord of Gwang-ri. After his death he was posthumously granted the rank of Samjungdaegwang Sado. After the Gabo Reforms of 1894 abolished the system of hereditary noble titles, his descendants relocated and enshrined the statue at Hyeonchungsa Shrine within Chunbokjae, and it is now kept at the Miryang City Museum. Carved from wood, the statue depicts a military official seated in a chair, wearing red official robes and holding a long sword in his right hand; with his piercing eyes and tall build, his expression seems to be giving a forceful command. The image is said to have originally been a clay statue, but exactly when it was changed into a wooden one is not known.
