Pungsallyussijaesa Temple
풍산류씨재사 · 豊山柳氏齋舍

This is a jaesil, an ancestral ritual house, built beside the grave of Ryu Won-ji (1616–1698) of the Pungsan Ryu clan, to maintain the grave and perform ancestral rites. He was a grandson of Ryu Seong-nyong, who had served as chief state councillor in the early Joseon period, and from childhood he studied under his grandfather and his father, Ryu Jin. He served early in his career as county magistrate of Hwanggan and Jinan, and during the Byeongja War he was active alongside the righteous-army leader Yi Hong-jo. He excelled not only in the Hundred Schools of Thought and the Four Books and Five Classics, but also in Neo-Confucianism, astronomy and geography, and his writings survive today in the Joljaejip. It appears that this jaesil was built by his son, Ryu Ik-chan, after he chose the burial site following his father's death. At the front stands the sarangchae, the men's quarters, with a cattle shed and a gatekeeper's room on either side of the main gate. The inner quarters has a central wooden-floored hall flanked by rooms on either side, forming the typical square, mieum-shaped layout of the North Gyeongsang region.
