Damyang Jungongnijungok Ancient Tomb
담양중옥리중옥고분 · 潭陽中玉里中玉古墳

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krJungok lies in the south-western part of Damyang-gun, at the south-eastern end of a hill formed where a ridge running south from Saminsan Mountain (570m above sea level) lowers in elevation. A broad alluvial plain of the Yeongsangang River basin spreads out in front of the village, while the tomb sits on a low hill behind it. The hill, descending from north to south, forms a small spur ridge behind the village, and the tomb lies at the point where the hill's main ridge meets this spur. Local people call it "Mol-mudeom"; as it stands within an orchard, persimmon trees have been planted on the mound itself. Although somewhat altered by the reclamation of the surrounding land as an orchard, the tomb survives in relatively good condition. In plan it is a trapezoidal rectangle, its long axis running east–west in line with the spur ridge. A flat area forms the top of the mound; the eastern slope is steep while the western slope is gentle, and both the plan and the cross-section show the typical features of a trapezoidal tomb. The mound measures about 18m in length, 9m (west) to 10m (east) in width, and about 2m in height.
