Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis Confucian academy was built to honour the loyalty and filial piety of Kim Ji-dae, posthumously titled Yeongheongong. Kim Ji-dae (1190–1266) was a civil official during the reign of King Gojong of Goryeo and the founding ancestor of the Cheongdo Kim clan. When the Khitan invaded in 1217, the fourth year of King Gojong, he went out to fight in place of his ailing father, thereby fulfilling loyalty and filial duty at the same time. Namgyeseowon was built in 1704, the thirtieth year of King Sukjong of Joseon.
