This shrine enshrines the spirit tablet of Ha Hong-do, known by his pen name Gyeomjae. Ha Hong-do (1593–1666), a scholar of the mid-Joseon period, was respected by his fellow students at Seonggyungwan, the state Confucian academy, but on account of the misrule of King Gwanghaegun he gave up any hope of official service, returned to his hometown, and devoted himself to scholarship and to training younger students. He was also deeply versed in astronomy, and his writings are collected in the Gyeomjaejip. Mohanjae is the place where he studied Confucian philosophy and lectured, and where eminent scholars of the day, such as Heo Mok, known as Misu, and Nam Gu-man, known as Yakcheon, also stayed. Calligraphy in Heo Mok's own hand is kept here, and every year on the tenth day of the third lunar month, people from the Yeongnam region hold a memorial rite before his spirit tablet.
