Gwaneumsa Temple Stone Pagoda
관음사석탑 · 觀音寺石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stone pagoda stands in front of Daeungjeon Hall within Gwaneumsa Temple; it has a three-storey body set on a two-tier platform. The platform is relatively more damaged than the body of the pagoda, and the two tiers of supporting stones carved above the upper platform also survive with their corners broken. The body of the pagoda was built with its body-stones and roof-stones each carved separately; the body-stones decrease in height towards the top, though the first-storey body-stone feels somewhat tall. Each corner of the body-stones bears a neat pillar-shaped carving, with no other decoration. The roof-stones, which appear thick, form a gentle slope that turns up slightly at the four corners. The eave supports on the underside of the roof-stones number four tiers on the first and second storeys and three on the third, and a hole for hanging a small bell is pierced at each corner. Judging overall from the stone-dressing technique, the pagoda is presumed to have been erected during the Goryeo period.
