Yeonggwijeong Pavilion was built by Song-eun Kim Gwang-su (1468–1563), the maternal grandfather of Seoae Yu Seong-ryong (1542–1607), after he resigned his official post under the reign of Prince Yeonsan to live in seclusion and devote himself to scholarship. The exact date of construction is unknown, but it is presumed to have been around 1500. The pavilion stands atop a cliff beside the Micheon River, commanding scenery as beautiful as a painting.
