영풍월호리마애석불좌상 · 榮豊月呼里磨崖石佛坐像

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis Buddha image stands in Asan-ri, Munsu-myeon, Yeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It is carved into the eastern face of a freestanding rock, so shallowly that fine details are barely visible. The head bears small, spiral-shaped curls of hair, while the outlines of the eyes, nose and mouth are faint, and three clear lines of samdo mark the short neck. The robe covers only the left shoulder, with its folds rendered as a gentle semicircular line running from the left shoulder down to the right side of the abdomen. The left hand is held naturally open against the lower abdomen, while the right hand is raised with the palm facing outward, placed against the upper right side of the chest. On the basis of its overall appearance, the image is presumed to date from the end of the Silla period or the beginning of the Goryeo period.
