Sadeokjeong Pavilion was built by Chuman Yi Yeong-gi (1583–1661) as a place to cultivate virtue and teach Confucian scholars. The building, first constructed in 1641, was repaired in 1863, the fourteenth year of King Cheoljong, and again in 1928. It measures three kan across the front and one kan along the side, with a heated ondol room at the centre flanked by wooden-floored rooms on either side. Although the floor plan appears very open, lift-and-hang doors fitted on the left and right give it an outwardly closed appearance, while also allowing the rooms and floor area to be enlarged as needed.
