The exact date Manilsa Temple was founded is unknown, but an inscription on the bronze Avalokitesvara statue enshrined inside the Beopdang Hall suggests it was founded in 1002, the fifth year of King Mokjong of Goryeo. The present Beopdang Hall was newly built in 1970. It measures four kan across the front and two kan along the side, with a hipped-and-gabled roof that forms the shape of the character 八 ('eight') when viewed from the side. Besides the Beopdang Hall, Manilsa Temple preserves many other heritage items designated as Cultural Heritage Materials: the Five-story Stone Pagoda of Manilsa Temple standing in front of the hall, the rock-carved Buddha of Manilsa Temple cut into a rock behind the hall, the seated stone Buddha of Manilsa Temple carved into a rock wall inside a natural cave, and the gilt-bronze Buddha of Manilsa Temple kept inside the hall.
