Letters Soru Pavilion was the residence of Im Un (pen name Cheommodang), and the place where his son Im Seung-sin (pen name Seogan) cultivated his scholarship and virtuous conduct. Galgye-ri, the village in Geochang-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, where Letters Soru Pavilion stands, is a clan village made up mostly of members of the Im family. The pavilion is located to the west of the Im family's head house, which serves as the principal house of the clan in the village. A distinctive feature of the site is that it consists only of a gate quarters and a men's quarters, with no separate residential wing, suggesting that the Im family's head house and Letters Soru Pavilion may originally have formed a single residential compound.
