Yongamjeong Pavilion was built in 1801, the first year of King Sunjo of Joseon, by Im Seok-hyeong (pen name Yongam, 1751–1816) on top of a rock. According to the Record of the Founding of Yongamjeong Pavilion, written by Im Seok-hyeong himself, and the Record of Repair by Yi Hwi-jun, the pavilion was repaired in 1864, the first year of Emperor Gojong. The pavilion measures three kan across the front and two kan deep, with a hipped-and-gabled (paljak) roof shaped like the Chinese character for "eight" (八) when viewed from the side. A single room was built at its centre, with space beneath the floor for a fire to heat it, and a railing was installed around the pavilion. Set amid beautiful scenery and embodying the noble bearing of a refined scholar, the pavilion displays framed boards inscribed with the names "Yongamjeong" (Dragon Rock Pavilion), "Banseonheon" (Hall of the Immortal's Companion), "Cheongwonmun" (Gate for Listening to the Gibbons) and "Hwanhangnan" (Railing for Summoning the Crane).
