Suncheon Koitseongyosa House
순천코잇선교사가옥

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis two-storey stone building survives in the Suncheon missionary village formed in the 1910s. It was built in 1913 and is associated with the missionary Robert Thronwell Coit (Korean name Go Ra-bok, ?–1932). The house is a relic that shows one aspect of the Christian missionary activity carried out in modern Korean society. It is especially significant, in both its form and its content, as a missionary house built for mission work in Suncheon, following earlier work in Mokpo and Gwangju. The Coit Missionary House, a building within the former Suncheon missionary village, has undergone some change from its original form but is the best preserved of its kind; it is one of the important buildings in the history of Christianity's introduction and of early modern Korean history, and it is also valuable from an architectural point of view.
