Hambyeokdang was built by the military official Gang Hui-cheol during the reign of King Myeongjong of Joseon (r. 1545–1565) as a place to live out his days in peace after retiring from official life. Gang Hui-cheol named it Hamgyeongdang and lived there; ownership later passed to Gwon Wi, who lived in Dochon. It subsequently became the property of Yu Gyeong-si (1666–1737), known by the pen name Hambyeokdang, who had settled in this village, and it has remained so to this day. The present building was rebuilt in 1862, the 13th year of King Cheoljong. It measures three bays across the front and three bays in depth, with a gable roof that, seen from the side, forms the shape of the Chinese character 人 (person). The pavilion bears a plaque reading "Hambyeokdang," written by the magistrate of Andong, and in front of it stands a tall stone platform.
