This is the tomb of Bak Manjusri (1691–1756), who used the pen name Gieun, a civil official of the late Joseon period renowned as a secret royal inspector. He passed the civil service examination in 1723, the third year of King Gyeongjong, and held various posts. When Yi Injwa's Rebellion broke out in 1728, the fourth year of King Yeongjo, he took the field as an aide to O Myeong-hang and helped suppress the revolt, for which he was granted the title of Lord Yeongseong. While serving as Military Commissioner of Yeongnam in 1729, the fifth year of King Yeongjo, he foresaw flood damage in Hamgyeong-do and sent 3,000 seok (a traditional unit of volume) of grain from the Jeminchang granary in Yeongnam to relieve flood victims in more than ten counties; a memorial stele known as the Bukminbi was later erected beside Manse Bridge in Hamheung in gratitude. Sent out repeatedly by royal order as a secret inspector, he purged corrupt officials and worked to relieve the suffering of the common people, and in 1741 he became commander of the Eoyeong Guards, a central military garrison, devoting himself to national defence. In 1749, the twenty-fifth year of King Yeongjo, while serving as Minister of the Board of Taxation he and other officials published the Takji Jeongnye to reduce state expenditure, and after his death he was posthumously elevated to the post of Chief State Councillor. The tomb lies at the top of Eundeoksan Mountain in Gwangdeok-myeon, Cheonan, and in front of it stand a stone offering table, a gravestone, ornamental stone pillars and a stone statue of a military official. About 1 km from the tomb stands a jaesil, a house used for ancestral rites, which holds two portrait paintings.
