This house was the residence of Kim Bin, pen name Galcheon. Kim Bin was a civil official who served as Chief Royal Secretary and Second Deputy Minister of Rites during the reign of King Sukjong (r. 1674–1720); after retiring from office he returned to live in his hometown here. The house was originally built by Kim Bin's younger brother, Kim Jeong. It was later sold as the family's fortunes declined, before being purchased by Yi Yu-in at the end of the Korean Empire period and relocated to its present site in 1899, the third year of the Gwangmu era. The anchae (women's quarters) and sarangchae (men's quarters) within the surrounding wall face south, while the storehouse wing faces east. A gate quarters, connected to the wall, stands in front of the sarangchae, illustrating the typical layout of a scholar-official's house in the northern Yeongnam region.
