Kim Myeong-yun Relics Twin Geom
김명윤유품쌍검 · 金命胤遺品雙劍

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThese are two swords belonging to Kim Myeong-yun, who became a first-class meritorious subject during the Japanese invasions of Korea. Kim Myeong-yun (1564–1609) achieved great military merit as magistrate of Paju during the invasions. The swords are said to have been bestowed personally by King Seonjo; although shaped like a single-edged blade (do), they in fact carry two cutting edges, with a branch-like projection attached along the spine of the blade. The handles were made of wood but have been damaged. The sword without its wooden handle measures 73cm in length and 5.2cm in width, while the other measures 62cm. The swords are currently kept at Dobong Seowon in Uichang-gun, Gyeongnam, a Confucian academy built to commemorate Kim Myeong-yun's scholarship and virtuous conduct.
