Standing Stone Buddha in Sangpyeong-dong, Jinju
진주 상평동 석조여래입상 · 上坪洞石造如來立像

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stone statue stands at Samhyeon Girls' High School in Sangpyeong-dong, Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do. It is 1.65 metres tall, and 2.7 metres including the pedestal. The head is so badly worn that its exact form cannot be made out, but a topknot-shaped bun rising from the crown of the head is noticeable. The neck bears the three creases known as samdo, a standard feature marking the neck folds of a Buddha image, and the body is carved with U-shaped drapery folds. Standing on an octagonal pedestal, the statue does not appear to be the pedestal's original match; based on its various features, it is presumed to have been made during the Goryeo period.
