This fortress, located in Angol-dong, Jinhae-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, was built on the summit of Dongmangsan Mountain. It has a circumference of 594 m, with walls standing 4–7 m high. It is a Japanese-style fortress (waeseong) built by Japanese forces during the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–98), constructed by commanders such as Hyeopban Anchi, Gadeung Gamyeong and Gugwi Garyong, and served as the base of the Japanese navy, whose garrisons rotated in year-long shifts to defend it. Having suffered repeated losses in naval battles and faced difficulty receiving supplies from Japan, it appears to have been built as a last-resort base to hold off the Korean navy. The mountain's terrain was divided into three sections, with the summits partly levelled, and the main fortress, first outer wall and second outer wall were each built separately in stone and then linked by outer walls, part of which were built of earth. The south and west sides of the fortress border a bay, presumably making use of the shoreline for easy access to sea routes.
