Oeseongsanseong Fortress
외성산성 · 外城山城

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis mountain fortress sits on a ridge along National Route 1 between Nonsan and Daejeon, built of packed earth encircling a peak 118 metres above sea level. The fortress wall is 400 metres in circumference and 1.5 metres high; although no clear trace of a gate remains, it is thought to have stood near the path leading up to Oeseong-ri village. Baekje pottery fragments have been found at the site, suggesting the fortress was built during the Baekje period. It appears to have served as an outer fortification of Hwangsanseong Fortress in Pyojeong-ri, Yeonsan-myeon, built to defend the southwest approach. The fortress occupies a strategic position on the route linking Mochon-ri in Yangchon-myeon, Sinpung-ri and Gamgok-ri in Bujeok-myeon, and the road from Nonsan to Yeonsan.
