Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis shrine is dedicated to Yeo Hui-rim, pen name Wonjeong (1481–1553). Yeo passed the lower civil service examination (sama examination) in 1507, the second year of King Jungjong, and formed friendships with Jo Gwang-jo, Kim Jeong and others. In 1516, the eleventh year of King Jungjong, he returned to his hometown and put into practice the Yeo clan's hyangyak, a community compact for local self-governance. The shrine was built by his descendants in 1558, the thirteenth year of King Myeongjong of Joseon; when the original site was submerged by the construction of Seongju Dam, the building was moved to its present location. It measures three bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a hip-and-gable roof that forms a figure like the Chinese character for "eight" when viewed from the side. An ondol (heated-floor) room links the central bay to the right-hand bay, with doors fitted between the room and the wooden-floored hall so that the space can be divided or combined as needed.
