In 1901 the French priest Father Emillionttakke (Korean name: Eom Taek-gi) built a small thatched hut on the site of the present cathedral as a temporary chapel and carried out missionary work there; it was on that same site that Father Yuriobereumun (Korean name: Mok Se-yeong) built the current cathedral in 1928. Built in a style that blends Romanesque and Renaissance architecture, the cathedral measures 21.45 m in length and 8.76 m in width. It is the oldest Catholic cathedral in the Gyeongnam region and retains its original appearance well, making it important material for the study of the development of modern Korean architecture.
