Jugwonjaesa Temple, Miryang
밀양 죽원재사 · 密陽 竹院齋舍

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a shrine built to honour Son Gi-yang (pen name Ohan, 1559–1617), who served as assistant magistrate of Ulsan and magistrate of Yeongcheon during the reign of King Seonjo (r. 1567–1608) of Joseon. Son Gi-yang also raised a righteous army at Seokdongsan Mountain in Miryang and distinguished himself through loyalty and righteousness. Jugwonjaesa was built by his descendants in 1753, the 29th year of King Yeongjo of Joseon, and was rebuilt in 1956, continuing in use to the present day. It measures seven bays across the front and three bays to the side, with a hipped-and-gabled roof that forms the shape of the Chinese character for "eight" (八) when viewed from the side. The Chieommun Gate, a sammun (a three-bay gate typical of shrine compounds), and the Jeongnyeolsa shrine are arranged together within the complex.
