This building was erected in 1661, the second year of King Hyeonjong, by the descendants Yi Ju and Yi Ryun, to commemorate their ancestors of the Gyeongsan Yi clan — Yi Gam, Yi Beon and Yi Heungmun. Yi Gam served as buyun, a local magistrate; Yi Beon served as magistrate of Yangyang; and Yi Heungmun held the post of daesaheon, Inspector-General. The name Baegindang was chosen in the spirit of a saying of the sages — that to endure is itself a virtue, and that through endurance one may achieve benevolence — with the aim of fostering harmony among the clan. Standing at the foot of Gaksan Mountain to the left of the village, the building rests on a granite platform. It measures four bays across the front and two bays to the side, with a hip-and-gable roof that takes the shape of the Chinese character for 'eight' (八) when viewed from the side. A wooden-floored hall occupies the centre, flanked on either side by ondol, underfloor-heated rooms. A wooden floor extends from the front of the ondol rooms, with a balustrade around its outer edge, though this appears to be a later alteration.
