Min Seung-se, who served as Daejehak, the highest-ranking scholar-official of the Kyujanggak, the royal library, returned to his hometown around 1820 and built this house. It consists of an anchae (main women's quarters), a sarangchae (men's quarters) and a haengnangchae (servants' quarters) arranged in the shape of the Korean consonant ㄱ. The roof of the anchae is a paljak, or hip-and-gable, roof, which forms the shape of the Chinese character 八 (eight) when viewed from the side. Min Ik-hyeon, the owner of the house and the sixth generation of his family to live there, is a fifth-generation descendant of Min Seung-se.
