This village school was built in the late Joseon period by Jeon Su-dong, pen name Guam (1791–1862), of the Okcheon Jeon clan, together with members of his clan, to train the younger generation. It was a private educational institution offering primary and secondary level instruction. The buildings within the compound include the village school itself, used for teaching, and the jusa, a building used as the caretaker's living quarters. The village school building is three bays wide and one-and-a-half bays deep, with a hip-and-gable roof that forms the shape of the Chinese character for "eight" (八) when viewed from the side. A wooden floor occupies the centre, flanked on either side by underfloor-heated rooms, and an additional wooden floor has been attached to the front of the building, with a railing running around its edge. Although modest in scale, the gentle curve of the roof, in harmony with the building's simple structure, lends it an unassuming beauty. The jusa was originally roofed with tile, but during a recent repair it was given a thatched roof instead.
