Yonganseowon, in Naejin-ri, Muan-myeon, Miryang, was founded in 1813, the 13th year of King Sunjo of Joseon, as a byeolsa, a subsidiary shrine, to enshrine Munan-gong Sanhwa Lee Gyeon-gan and Seongsan-gun Lee Sik. In 1818, the 18th year of King Sunjo, as the site and buildings proved too small, it was moved to its present location and given the name plaque Yongansa. After being demolished in 1870 it was renamed Yonganjae, and from 1922 an altar was established there, with Yeoeun Lee Sa-ji and Daehogun Lee Jung-rim enshrined in addition and honoured with ancestral rites. In 1983 a shrine building was rebuilt on the old site of Yongansa and the ritual hall was repaired, the spirit tablets were enshrined, and rites have been held there every September since. Yonganseowon comprises a lecture hall, Siseupjae, and a shrine. The lecture hall is five bays wide by two bays deep, with a hipped-and-gabled roof on a five-purlin (ryangga) frame. Siseupjae stands at a right angle to the right of the lecture hall and serves as the east wing (dongjae). It is four bays wide and one bay deep, with two rooms on the north side and, on the south side, a two-bay wooden-floored hall (daecheong) in a raised-pavilion (numaru) style, under a gable roof. The shrine, Yongansa, is three bays wide by two bays deep, with a two-tiered bracket (ikgong) system, a three-purlin frame, and a gable roof. None of the three buildings at Yonganseowon have eave-side bays (toetkan), and their columns show a pronounced entasis-like taper, both features pointing to an older style of construction. The lecture hall's front platform had at some point been refaced with triangular stone coursing; its front, side and rear platforms were later all dismantled and rebuilt using naturally squared stones laid with closed joints. Yonganseowon is regarded as important academic material for the study of late Joseon-period architecture.
