Seated Uiseong Naesan-ri Stone Buddha
의성내산리석불좌상 · 義城內山里石佛坐像

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stone Buddha is enshrined in the Mireukdang, a Maitreya shrine hall, in Naesan-ri, Gucheon-myeon, Uiseong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. Atop the bald head rises a large topknot-shaped hair bun, and the face, with its eyes, nose and mouth badly worn, has indistinct features. The robe covers both shoulders, its folds forming a V-shape that continues round to the back. The right hand hangs down towards the ground while the left hand appears to support a bowl-like object, suggesting that the statue represents the Medicine Buddha (Yaksa Yeorae). Overall, the head, hands and feet are rendered disproportionately large, and the blunt carving technique suggests it was made during the Goryeo period.
