This is the shrine of Kim Guk-gwang (1415–1480). Kim passed the munkwa civil examination in 1441, the twenty-third year of King Sejong, and entered official life; he won deep trust by assisting King Sejo's accession to the throne. He took an active part in compiling the Gyeongguk daejeon (National Code), and rose through the post of Minister of War to become Right State Councillor and then Left State Councillor. Mowonjae was built in 1623, the first year of King Injo. It measures four kan across the front and three kan on the side, with a hipped-and-gabled (paljak) roof that, seen from the side, takes the shape of the character 八 (eight).
