Yanggeumsinbo
양금신보 · 梁琴新譜

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krYanggeumsinbo is a notation score for the geomungo, a six-stringed plucked zither, compiled in 1610, the second year of King Gwanghaegun of Joseon, by the musician Yang Deok-su. While Yang was living in seclusion in Namwon to escape the Japanese invasions of Korea (1592–1598), he met an old friend there, Kim Du-nam, the magistrate of Imsil, and compiled the score at his suggestion. Several editions exist, and a facsimile copy is kept at the National Library of Korea. This geomungo score, held by Gang Tae-jung, is a manuscript copy comprising 30 leaves bound in a single volume. It is made of hanji, traditional Korean mulberry-fibre paper, measuring 21 cm by 30.3 cm. Although it is a manuscript copy, it is of high value because such scores are rare nationwide.
