Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis stele was erected to honour the achievements of Jeong Han-jo and Gwon Jae-man, who had served respectively as jeopjang and bansu, leaders of the itinerant peddler guilds known as bobusang. Jeong Han-jo, a jeopjang from Bonghwa, and Gwon Jae-man, a bansu from Andong, travelled back and forth between Uljin and Bonghwa carrying fish, salt, seaweed and other goods on small pack-frames called jjokjige, and gave great assistance to merchants trading by barter. The merchants, unable to forget their contribution, erected this stele around 1890, the twenty-seventh year of Emperor Gojong of Joseon, to commemorate their kindness.
