양산 통도사 광서무인명 아미타후불탱 · 通度寺光緖戊寅阿彌陀後佛幀

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is an Amitabha altar painting (huhbultaeng) preserved at Tongdosa Temple. A taenghwa is a Buddhist painting made by painting on cloth or paper and mounting it as a framed picture or hanging scroll. Painted in colour on a silk ground, this painting shows traces of four panels joined together from top to bottom. A seated image of Amitabha is placed at the centre of the composition, flanked by attendant bodhisattvas, with images of Ananda and Kashyapa above them. In the upper background, cloud patterns are drawn in white outline to fill the space. An inscription in the lower centre of the painting records that it was made in the year 'Gwangseomuin', that is, 1878. It is an important scholarly resource for the study of the history of Buddhist painting in the Joseon period.
