Cheommodang Hall
첨모당 · 瞻慕堂

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis building was erected in 1429, the 11th year of King Sejong, by Hwang Jeon, who had served as a Bongnye, a ceremonial official of the Tongnyewon (Office of State Ceremonies), so that he could pursue his studies and teach local Confucian scholars. It was later rebuilt as a shrine in 1735, the 11th year of King Yeongjo, led by Confucian scholars centred on the Changwon Hwang clan of the Yeongju region, and the present building was rebuilt again in 1778, the second year of King Jeongjo. It is a modest structure of three bays across the front and one bay to the side, with a gabled roof that takes the shape of the Chinese character 人 (person) when viewed from the side. There is a wooden-floored hall in the centre, flanked by ondol, or heated-floor, rooms on either side.
