Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis is a portrait of Gwon Seong (1653–1730). Hwasansa Shrine was originally a shrine where memorial rites were held for Gwon Byeon and Gwon Seong, and their portraits had been enshrined there. In 1871, however, the shrine was torn down under the Daewongun's decree abolishing seowon, private Confucian academies, and the portraits were moved to the head family's house. In recent years a yeongdang, a portrait hall, was built in Hwasan-ri, and the portrait has been enshrined there ever since.
