Tapseon-ri Stone Pagoda
탑선리석탑 · 塔仙里石塔

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krThis three-storey stone pagoda stands in Tapseon village, its three-storey body set on a single-tier foundation (gidan). The foundation was built by stacking rectangular stones in two tiers and finishing with a capstone on top, while the body of the pagoda consists of separate stones carved for the main block and roofstone of each storey and set in sequence. Each storey's main block has corner pillars carved into its edges; the first-storey block has now been cut lengthwise to the width of a pillar carving and laid on its side. The roofstones curve gently upward at all four corners, and the underside of each carries three tiers of supporting eaves. Judging from the pagoda's surviving form, it is presumed to have been built during the Goryeo period, and since the stone of the foundation differs in material from that of the body, the pagoda appears originally to have been assembled from parts of two different pagodas.
