Built in the late 19th century, this house stands with a mountain behind it and a stream flowing in front. It was built by Sim Dong-seop (1846–1924), pen name Woroheon, the seventh-generation descendant of Sim Myeong-han (1654–1711), who had settled here in the mid-Joseon period. The house consists of an L-shaped main house (anchae) and an L-shaped men's quarters (sarangchae), which together form an overall square courtyard plan, open on one side rather than fully enclosed. It is a typical yangban, or scholar-official class, house of the late Joseon period, combining practicality with tradition. In particular, this house served as the headquarters of the anti-Japanese resistance movement led by Sim Gyu-ha (1906–1976), who served as a central secretary of Singanhoe, an anti-Japanese independence organisation, organised its Andong branch, and campaigned against the compulsory use of the Japanese language and the policy of forcing Koreans to adopt Japanese-style names.
