This house was built by Kim Jung-su (1791-1868), grandson of Haewa Kim Hui-taek (1742-1818), who had served as magistrate of Cheongha. In accordance with his grandfather's last wishes, Kim Jung-su built the house and it came to be called Haewa Historic House. Unlike the square layout typical of yangban houses in this region, the building divides the anchae (women's inner quarters), the sarangchae (men's outer quarters) at the front, and the jungmunchae (the wing containing the middle gate) into two L-shaped sections that together form an open, square-cornered layout. The sarangchae measures three kan across the front and four-and-a-half kan deep, and consists of a large sarang room and a wooden-floored hall. The anchae measures four kan across the front and three kan deep, with heated ondol rooms set on either side of a central daecheong hall. The jungmunchae is joined to the left of the sarangchae and consists of three kan across the front and one kan deep.
