This is a stele honouring the filial conduct of Bok Han, a civil official of early Joseon. Bok Han (1350–1427) was a nineteenth-generation descendant of Bok Ji-gyeom, a meritorious subject who helped found Goryeo, and the son of Bok Wi-ryong, a loyal subject of late Goryeo. From childhood he excelled in the study of the Confucian classics, and under King Sejong he served as an Inspector in the Office of the Inspector-General. He died at the age of seventy-seven. The stele, which is protected inside a stele pavilion, has an unusual style of carving on its surface. It records that in 1453, the first year of King Danjong, a hyojacheop—a document recording his filial deeds—spread as far as mainland China, where he was praised as a filial son throughout the world. The stele was erected in 1458, the fourth year of King Sejo, to pass down to later generations his filial devotion in serving his parents.
