Seosansungdeoksa Temple is a shrine enshrining the spirit tablet of Grand Prince Hoean, the fourth son of King Taejo, founder of Joseon. Grand Prince Hoean was a prince of the early Joseon period whose personal name was Bang-gan. In the first year of King Taejo (1392), the year the Joseon Dynasty was founded, he was invested as Prince Hoean, and in the first year of King Taejong (1401) he was elevated to Grand Prince Hoean. He assisted Prince Jeongan, Bang-won — the future King Taejong — in the First Strife of Princes, but when the Second Strife of Princes failed the following year, he was exiled to Tosan. He lived out his natural span of years and died at Hongju in the first year of King Sejong (1419); his posthumous title was Yanghui. His spirit tablet was at first enshrined beside the grave of his wife, of the Hwang clan of Miryang, but in the 40th year of King Seonjo (1607) a building was erected by royal command at Gangdang-ri, Buseok-myeon, to house it, and it was named Sungdeoksa. In the first year of Emperor Gojong (1864) it was moved to its present site. The building has a floor plan of three bays across the front and one bay to the side, in a simple, rectangular (il-shaped) layout.
