This house faces southwest on the hillside of Gilseong Village in Docheon-ri. The site is said to have been chosen by Kim Byeong-jip, great-great-grandfather of the present owner, and the house itself built in 1924 by his great-grandfather Kim U-gyu (1849–1926). A square (mija, "ㅁ"-shaped) main house stands together with an L-shaped ("ㄱ"-shaped) annex in front of the men's quarters, with a shed to the left of the kitchen. The layout follows the square-shaped plan often seen in the houses of the yangban gentry or wealthy farming families of the northern Gyeongsangbuk-do region, divided into three parts: the men's quarters, the main quarters, and a storage section linked to the kitchen. The men's quarters comprise six bays in total, with two ondol-heated rooms and two wooden-floored rooms at the front, and a further two-bay study wing set off to the right.
