Cheonan Noeunjeong Pavilion
천안노은정 · 天安老隱亭

Korea Heritage Service · khs.go.krNoeunjeong Pavilion was built in 1689, the 15th year of King Sukjong, by the scholar Kim Sang-gi, so that he could devote himself to study and train the next generation; the building's name derives from his pen name, Noeun. It was first repaired in 1853, the fourth year of King Cheoljong, and has been renovated several times since. The building stands on a granite base, measuring two bays across the front and two bays along the side, with a plank floor of the umulmaru type, its boards framed in a well-shaped grid. Each pillar of the pavilion was fitted with projections to prevent water damage, for the sake of safety. Noeunjeong is the oldest pavilion in Cheonan and, as a building that shows Korea's traditional architectural style from 300 years ago, its surrounding scenery is also beautiful, and it is counted as one of the 'Eight Views of Dowon'.
