This is a house built by Gangpa Gwon Sang-im (1622–1700), who was widely renowned as a cheongbaengni, an official formally honoured for incorruptibility, during the reign of King Sukjong of Joseon. It originally had a square, courtyard-style layout, but after the detached men's quarters (sarangchae) were destroyed by fire, they were rebuilt to the left of the front of the main women's quarters (anchae), giving the house its present U-shaped plan. The anchae has an L-shaped plan, with the main bedroom (anbang), a wooden-floored hall (maru) and another room arranged in sequence from the right. A two-bay kitchen was built in front of the main bedroom on the right. The anbang has a storage room called a dojangbang, used for keeping grain and other goods. The daecheong (main hall) is fitted with two pairs of double doors, designed to help regulate the indoor temperature not only in summer but also in winter. The sarangchae has heated ondol rooms on either side of a central wooden-floored hall. Along the right-hand front wall of the sarangbang (men's room) stands an earthen wall that blocks visitors' view into the anchae, separating the house's inner and outer spaces. Built in the late 17th century, the house displays the residential style typical of the northeastern Gyeongsangbuk-do region.
