This mountain fortress in Mokcheon-eup, Cheonan-si, South Chungcheong Province, was built to encircle the summit of Heukseongsan Mountain. It is a stone-built fortress with a circumference of 570m, but most of it has been damaged, making its original form difficult to make out. According to the Sejong Sillok Jiriji (Geographical Appendix to the Veritable Records of King Sejong), the fortress contained one well and one spring, which are recorded as occasionally drying up in summer and winter. The Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam (Newly Augmented Survey of the Geography of Korea) records that the fortress wall was 6 cheok high — a traditional unit of length — with a single pond in the middle.
